Illustration Friday: Adapt

When the first creatures first set fin or foot on land do you think there was this moment of, "oh crap, what did I do?"

Does anyone know if there are any materials artists use to spray on pastel drawings so the chalk does not rub off?

His expression made me laugh! Great job!

As for pastel chalks, you can spray workable fixative over the drawing which prevents some rub off, but still allows you to continue working on the piece.

Haha, nice! I found cheap hair spray works, though it's not the most eco-friendly choice I guess.

Oh how funny--when I saw the thumbnail, I thought it was a woman's pregnant belly. Imagine my surprise to find that it's a fish eye. He looks exhausted.

I really like the style of it!

Thank you for the kind words everyone.
Nessadee and Steve, thank you for the suggestions on fixatives.

Coreopsis, I never know what to thumbnail so hearing that you thought it was a pregnant woman (which I can see how you could see that) and your surprise to discover it wasn't makes me smile.

Love the expression! He's all like, "Okay, what do I do now"

+1 on the workable fixative. Acrylic spray sealant is also good.

pre-test the fixative, though...i once used a fixative on the "lady/swimmer" that hangs in our living room (created when i was in college as part of a project) and the spray "ate" up all of the white--it never seemed quite the same when i put the white back in. i'll show you the next time you come over.

still loving all of your drawings...!

Hi Kirk,

Margie here...I don't think I've ever been officially introduced to you somehow. Anyway, Harvey said he talked to you about my book and that you were interested in talking...after looking through this blog I can't imagine too many things that would be more awesome! :) He said he had a few notes and questions, but anyway, yeah...if you are interested I'd love to talk to ya!
